Respondents in Europe traveled the most, at 41.2%, while North America (35.2%) and Asia-Pacific (35.8%) traveled about the same.
36.8% of global respondents traveled within the last year. Hoteliers travel significantly more, with 88.3% of hoteliers surveyed saying they traveled within the last year. Given the discrepancy, we conducted this survey to better understand trends among the general population, free of industry bias.

A very positive sign for hoteliers is that almost 70% of travelers will feel most comfortable staying at a hotel they know, which means you can leverage your guest database to accelerate your hotel’s recovery.
North American travelers are most likely to book a familiar hotel (74.6%).
74.1% or travelers indicated they would want to stay at a hotel on their next trip, while 25.9% said they would prefer a short-term rental, such as Airbnb. Asia-Pacific travelers are the least likely to prefer a short-term rental (22.5%).

9.3% of travelers will wait on the overall status of the pandemic, while 31% will put weight on what hotels are doing with regard to safety, social distancing, and cleaning. Use this opportunity to reassure guests of your enhanced cleanliness standards and measures.
For 21% of global respondents, location was the top factor affecting their accommodation choice. A large number of respondents specifically made mention to visiting family, which means that messaging around connecting with family and friends may resonate well in marketing communications.
Price, value, or booking policies accounted for 17.1% of accommodation considerations.
Hotel-specific reasons, such as class and review ratings, accounted for 12.9% of responses, while amenities only accounted for 2.4%.

Bookings are on the horizon! 33.4% expect to book within the next 6 months, and 50.1% expect to book within the next 12 months. Only 7.4% don’t expect to travel at all.
